Latinitas Celebrates el Dia de Los Muertos

Celebrating antepasados on Saturday, Oct. 27th, Latinitas will be displaying its own altar reflecting lost reletives and images of outstanding Latina icons who have passed such as Celia Cruz in Mexic-Arte's annual Dia de las Muertos Altar Procession

In addition to featuring traditional components of this ancient Mexican ritual, the museum is commemorating the 100th anniversary of Frida Kahlo’s birth, 1907-2007, by inviting procession attendees to dress like Mexico's premiere female artista.

Latinitas volunteers will meet at 3pm at Mexic-Arte Museum to complete its altar and then will join the Muertos procession at Plaza Saltillo at 5pm for the procession downtown. To participate contact Alicia Rascon.

Round Rock Nods to Latinitas

Latinitas after school club at Anderson Mill Elementary School was spotlighted in a recent issue of the Round Rock Leader.

Latinitas first club outside of Austin, Anderson Mill is a unique group in that they are Latinitas youngest participants, in 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade.

"Our traditional curriculum is geared towards girls 3rd grade and older, but the interest was so strong at this school we have adjusted activities to serve these young Latinitas." says Laura Donnelly, Latinitas co-founder. "As a result these little "reporteritas" have completed their own photo series, made their own 'zines and have begun lessons in sound and radio production."
